    DETROIT "DESIGNED BY" 2022 DESIGN FEST

    The inaugural “Designed By” youth design fest took place on March 18th, 2022 in the City of Detroit, MI. The interactive event raised awareness among high school students and activated pathways into a wide range of design professions. At the core of the fest were hands-on youth-inspired participatory learning activities (from workshops to round tables) with DID design professionals and educators straddling a range of sectors (including architecture and interior design, fashion and apparel, graphics, digital design, industrial design, and more).

    HERMAN MILLER DESIGN INSIGHTS SERIES ON DID: ANSWERING THE CALL - COLLABORATIVE INSIGHTS FOR RACIAL EQUITY ACTION IN THE DESIGN INDUSTRY

    Celebrating Black History Month, Herman Miller's Design Insights Series team brought in the Diversity in Design Collaborative to share experiences and insights on obstacles Black designers face, and progress being made toward creating more positive, inclusive conditions in the industry. Panelists included Halima McWilliams, Associate Principal at Corgan - Dallas, Alice Coleman, Experience Design leader for Rightpoint - Detroit, and Wes O'Haire, Founder of Blacks Who Design, and Designer at Dropbox, and moderated by Todd Palmer, Direct of the Diversity in Design Collaborative.

    DETROIT DESIGN MONTH 2021

    As part of Detroit Design Month September 2021, the DID Collaborative hosted a panel discussion titled "Diversity in Design Collaborative: Creating an Inclusive Design Ecosystem." The panel featured Forest Young, Head of Design – Wolff Olins, D'Wayne Edwards, Founder of PENSOLE Footwear Design Academy, and Keisha Golding, Head of Belonging – Gap Inc., moderated by Todd Palmer, Director of Diversity In Design. Together this panel explored ways the Collaborative and its combined efforts can profoundly transform the status quo across design industries.
